Oldsmobile Viking Engine

Production: 1929-1930
Type: Flathead Design
The Viking Auto was produced by Oldsmobile as a Counterpart Marque, much like Cadillac had the Lasalle. This 260-cid engine had a 3-3/8" bore and 3-5/8" stroke generating 80 Horsepower. The V-8 engine block was a "Monoblock" casting. Olds' made a great deal of the downdraft design of the intake manifold. The Viking's Johnson carburetor was mounted in a very high position, which R.E. Olds believed would help in cold starting. Other features of the Viking engine included Alloy steel intake valves, silichrome exhaust values and a six-volt 15-plate battery. Each Viking Auto had a Fisher body and came equipped with safety-plate glass in the windshield. The Viking was framed entirely in selected hardwood.
