Description

1969 Chevrolet 302 Z/28

The 302 had been put together from Chevrolet's parts bin in 1967 to allow Camaros to go head-to-head with Mustangs in the popular SCCA Trans-Am Racing series. Only the Corvette and the Corvair were allowed multiple carburetion, and Chevrolet was forced to offer their cross-ram 2 x 4V system only over the parts counter, although some were dealer-installed.

Displacement: 302-cid
Horsepower (Gross) @ peak RPM: 440 to 465 hp (estimated)
Compression Ratio: 11.0:1
Bore x Stroke (in): 4.00 x 3.00

~The complete kit was part No. 394007 and included a pair of list number 4210 4-barrel Halley carburetors, along with all the linkages and plumbing to complete the installation.

~The 2 x 4V Cross-Ram was usually accompanied by a set of tubular headers which were curiously available from Chevrolet in 1967 and 1968, but not in 1969. There were not, however, any restrictions about getting them from the after market.

~The Trans-Am series' rules created the Ford and Chevy 302s in 1967. An engine rule change from 1970 allowed manufacturers to reduce the displacement of otherwise eligible engines and brought them to an end.
